Return to Basilicata: Craco and Festival of San Vincenzo

We are pleased to share with our Members & Friends information and the opportunity to join a tour of the Basilicata Region this coming October.

This tour is not affiliated with, and not organized by, the BCSC, which also receives no direct or indirect compensation in any form.

Return to Basilicata:

Craco and Festival of San Vincenzo

October 20-26, 2026

Reconnect with your roots in Basilicata by visiting the region as it is today.

Over the past 150 years, as many as 400,000 Lucani left Basilicata for Canada, the United States and beyond. They took their home with them, its saints, its food, its language and its rituals – all things they celebrate at the Basilicata Cultural Society of Canada.

On this trip, you’ll stay in a hotel fashioned out of the sassi caves in Matera and at a masseria lovingly restored by a Lucani who emigrated to Toronto. You’ll walk the streets of Craco, rich with history and the memories of those who lived there. You’ll make bread in a bakery in Matera that has been running since 1890. You’ll savour oil pressed from olives grown in an ancient grove at the foot of the Little Lucanian Dolomites, part of the Basilicata slow food network. You’ll taste wine from vines grown on the slopes of an extinct volcano by a woman who refused to let her grandfather sell the family vineyard.

And taste Acheruntino gelato (it’s like velvet in your mouth!) in Castelmezzano, a town perched between the peaks of the Lucanian Dolomites.

Join us, and reconnect with Basilicata!

Tour size is limited to 12 participants.
